More Bombs

Two more local high schools had bomb threats yesterday. This makes 5 threats since the VA Tech shootings in April. Son #1's school and another close by. Supposedly the kids at his school were made to get off the morning buses directly into the sports stadium. The other school evacuated out of the building shortly before lunches began. The kids missed their meals and classes. It's a long way between breakfast at 6:30-7:00 and lunch after school at 2:30 or later.

According to the local news, each bomb threat costs the schools $7,000 for the police services to clear the buildings. Plus- it's a felony. IMO, I think they ought to bill each person convicted the full cost of police services and another fee for the lost hours of instruction.

Son #1 had forgotten his cell phone so he stayed out in the stadium chatting with friends and enjoying the good weather.

Isn't that infuriating!? It sounds like the schools are on top of things, though. That's good.

Glad Son#1 had a nice day, bomb threat notwithstanding. lol

Consider it a marker of things to come. I just saw a study relating to California public schools which is showing a steady increase of threats to schools, but secondary and at college level.

Hope your kid wasn't too freaked out.

It's disturbing that someone would do this, but to be honest, it's been going on for years. The fake bomb scare was a regular ploy to get out of testing when I was in high school. I have no idea who actually called them in, but we spent many an afternoon standing around on the football field.

What makes it really disturbing is that there's a huge difference, today it's meant to terrorize and that's scary.

I never heard of bomb threats when I was in school. I was thinking these kind of people should be thrown in jail - any number of laws are broken doing this! Are they finding the people who are responsible for these? It would seem that in this day and age it would be much easier.

Jenster- He seemed fine with it at the time.

Suisan- I agree it is the time we live in, unfortunately. He was ok.

Tara- It has been going on for years, I know. Only now, I'm afraid the potential has risen that one of these times it'll be for real.

CindyS- So far the police've caught all the kids who've made these threats. It's a felony, here, punishable by jail time- potentially. One young man wanted his GF out of school so they could hang out together.
